At Oak + Iron Fitness, we believe our members are the heart of our business. We love to interview our members in the Raleigh and Cary community who are prioritizing strength, health, and long-term wellness through intentional training. Each story offers a behind-the-scenes look at what strength training can look like in real life AND why community matters just as much as the workout itself.
This month, we’re chatting with Caroline Putze, an 8am-er who always brings a smile to every workout. Caroline is a great example of how empowering strength training for women can be – both in and out of the gym!

About Our Guest:
Caroline is an orthopedic medical device sales rep who grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina. She also went to NC State and has been here her whole life!
Caroline is an avid podcast listener. Her favorites are anything that discusses health, wellness, supplements, mindfulness, meditation, and biohacking. She loves The Skinny Confidential Podcast, which aligns perfectly with her interest in continuous learning and self-improvement.
When Caroline isn’t training at Oak + Iron or diving into all things health and wellness, you’ll most likely find her at the beach and soaking up sunshine.

Q&A: Caroline’s Fitness Journey
Every fitness journey starts somewhere, and Caroline’s began with curiosity and a willingness to try something new.
How did you first hear about Oak + Iron Fitness?
I think I found it online and took my first class in January 2023.
What made you choose Oak + Iron as your gym?
The programming felt like personal training, but in a way that made me feel comfortable and confident as a newbie.
How long have you been with us, and what keeps you coming back?
I’ve been at the gym for almost 4 years! The community, coaches, and programming that creates results keeps me coming in every week.
Caroline’s introduction to Oak + Iron reflects what many members are looking for when searching for a strength training gym in Raleigh or Cary – expert coaching, structured programming, and an environment that feels supportive rather than intimidating.
Motivation & Progress
As Caroline settled into a consistent routine, her motivation began to shift from just showing up to building strength, confidence, and resilience both inside and outside the gym.
What motivates you to stay consistent with your fitness?
The desire to and feeling of being strong motivates me, both physically and mentally. On days that are hard, I know that I will never regret going to the gym or moving my body.
What personal wins or breakthroughs are you most proud of so far?
I did my first unassisted pull up during our last cycle and I was super proud of that!
What goals are you working toward now?
I am working towards being excited about handles-down trap bar dead lifts coming up in this next cycle. Haha. I would love to continue to work on my pull ups and focus on building my posterior chain strength.
Caroline’s progress highlights the long-term impact of consistent strength training for women. From mental resilience to physical milestones like an unassisted pull-up (!!), her journey shows how structured programming and progressive overload can build strength over time. Because of this foundation, Carolina can show up to the gym with a broader perspective and focus on longevity, functional movement, and continued confidence under the bar.
Favorite Parts of Oak + Iron
Beyond physical progress, Caroline’s experience at Oak + Iron has been shaped by the classes, coaches, and community that continue to make each workout something she looks forward to.
What’s your favorite class or type of workout here?
Lift is my favorite class. I especially love Friday Lift. My second favorite is Saturday 8:30 am Drive!
Which coach(es) have had a big impact on your journey? How so?
Mel has had a big impact on my journey, especially this past year at 8 am! Her energy is contagious and she is so motivating as a woman and leader in fitness. Matt has been so influential in my fitness journey. I can always count on him to believe in my ability to lift heavier and encourage that!
What do you love most about the O+I community?
I love how the O+I community genuinely cheers for each other. We want the best for one another in and out of the gym, regardless of how heavy or fast you move. The energy in class during test week is a testament to this. People remember you and care about you here.
From group fitness classes to impactful coaching relationships, Caroline’s experience speaks to the supportive culture we collectively cultivate at Oak + Iron. The encouragement from coaches and members alike creates an environment where everyone feels seen, challenged, and celebrated, regardless of fitness level or goals.
