As a physical therapist who works extensively with runners and lifelong athletes over 30, I’ve seen the same pattern over and over: the people who stay strong, consistent, and active after physical therapy are the ones who stay injury-resistant for the long haul. Rehab is just part of the journey.

But, finding a group training environment that truly supports “maturing” athletes (I’m a 50-year-old fitness diehard myself) isn’t simple. You need coaches who understand smart progression, workouts that challenge you without sidelining you, and a community that lifts you up rather than burns you out.

That’s why I confidently recommend Oak and Iron, especially now with their second location. I’m a member myself, and having trained at both spots, I can say without hesitation that the programming is safe, efficient, well-designed, and appropriately challenging, which is exactly what lifelong athletes need to stay healthy and performing at a high level.

If you’re looking for a training home with great coaching and a supportive, like-minded community, Oak and Iron’s Raleigh and Cary locations are absolutely worth checking out.

Best gym in Wake County ! The coaches are all extremely knowledgeable and friendly. This is a gym that feels like family and has the best community ! You walk in the doors and everyone welcomes you with a smile. The workouts are so well thought out and structured so you can see the progress you’re making ! Come and check out the new Cary location ! 💪🏽😊
Great location, clean facility, perfect workout class! Trainer was personable, knowledgeable, and professional at the noon/lunch time slot I went to. Facility is equipped with lockers, clean bathrooms and lots of thoughtful extras in the women’s restroom (hair ties, tampons, toiletries in case you want to use the showers!) The personal training area for 1:1 coaching also looks super nice! Highly recommend the Lift class for strength training.

This was my first time attending class and it was better than expected! Awesome HIIT workout with circuits using equipment and weights. The instructor was fabulous- she provided easy to understand instructions, helped with proper form, and encouraged us to work! Everyone was super friendly and I felt great after the workout. Definitely recommend this place and plan to return!

So excited to have Oak & Iron Cary right here in New Waverly! Matt and his incredible team have created something truly special. The coaching is top-notch—thoughtful, knowledgeable, and intentional—but what really sets this gym apart is the vibe. It’s welcoming, encouraging, and genuinely kind. Whether you’re brand new or a seasoned athlete, you’ll feel right at home the moment you walk through the doors. Grateful to have this kind of community-driven fitness space in the neighborhood!
